Edit It! will polish your masterpiece for a very reasonable price, and with an initial, no-cost sample edit.

My name, which you've probably noticed throughout the other pages of this blog, is Michael Lane. I'm an editor and journalist by education and profession, and bring thousands of hours of editing and writing experience to bear on your manuscript for very reasonable rates. I'm also an independent author, so I know that your budget is tight. Remember, though, that a professional edit makes you money in the long run. How many times have you abandoned a story after stumbling over spelling or grammar mistakes in its early pages? The best idea can be hamstrung by poor technique. That's where editing comes in.

I take only a few projects on at any one time to ensure your manuscript gets the attention it needs and deserves.

An edited sample of any submitted work will be provided at no charge. Once satisfied with the quality of the service, a PayPal deposit of 30% begins the process, with the balance due upon completion. Delivery of the final edited manuscript follows receipt of the balance of payment within 24 hours. All submitted materials are confidential and are not used in any form for promotion or other use. Base copyedit:

Correct: Spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation. Basic fact-check.

Manuscript length           Cost

Up to 10,000 words         1 cent/word

Over 10,000 words          .5 cents/word

Turnaround: Normally within 2 weeks.

 

Light edit:

As Base copyedit plus suggestions on development and problem areas through summaries of character, style, pace and plot, as well as an overview of both strengths and weaknesses of the work as a whole.

Up to 10,000 words         $50 plus 1 cent/word

Over 10,000 words          $50 plus .5 cents/word

Turnaround: Normally within 2 weeks.

 

Production edit:

As Base and Light edits. In addition, a page-by-page edit with problematic sections, confusing language, redundant or extraneous sections marked for extra attention.

Up to 10,000 words         $150 plus 1 cent/word

Over 10,000 words          $200 plus .5 cents/word

Turnaround: Normally within 4 weeks.
